With the urethane coating, it is durable and food safe. The shape also makes stacking possible. You can stack multiple pieces together, which is very convenient for storage. 

The bamboo mat is used inside the bowl for food such as tempura and soba noodles. You can also use the bowl without the bamboo mat as a serving box for sushi, sashimi and other dishes. 

As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
